The Swiss government has signed an agreement with the American biotechnology company Moderna, which will provide the country with early access to the coronavirus vaccine.
Under the agreement, Switzerland will receive 4.5 million doses of the vaccine.
Following this news, Moderna shares on the market on August 7 increased by 1.68% and reached $ 75.
The Swiss government is also negotiating with other companies that produce vaccines against COVID-19. On this project the country’s authorities have allocated 300 million Swiss francs ($ 329 million).
In late July, Moderna began the final phase of testing the vaccine. It must be tested by 30,000 volunteers in 90 districts of the United States. Scientists vaccinated half of people with an interval of four weeks, while others will be given two doses of placebo. Following this news, the company’s shares rose by 9%.
Pfizer also approached the final testing of the coronavirus vaccine. When it is approved for use, the company and its German partner BioNTech signed a contract with the US government to supply 100 million doses of vaccine, when it is approved for use.
