Shares of Moderna that up to 252.6% since the beginning of the year, increased by 9% before the opening of trading on Wednesday against the backdrop of President Donald Trump signing a major government agreement with the company to supply 100 million doses of its mRNA-1273 vaccine against COVID-19.
According to a Moderna press release on Tuesday, the transaction is worth $ 1.53 billion, the terms also allow the federal government to purchase up to 400 million additional doses.
At the same time, the US government has already invested $ 955 million in the development of the Moderna vaccine, resulting in a total investment of $ 2.48 billion.
Currently, the Moderna vaccine against the deadly disease is in the final phase of the study, testing its effectiveness and safety is conducted on 30,000 volunteers. In case of passing to the planned schedule, according to Moderna, the company can announce the final results of the final study in October.
Earlier, the company announced plans to deliver about 500 million doses of the vaccine this year and possibly up to 1 billion doses per year starting in 2021.
“We appreciate the US government’s trust in our mRNA vaccine platform and the continued support,” Moderna CEO, Stefan Bansel said in a press release.
Commenting on a recent quarterly report by Moderna, Bansel said the company will set the price of the vaccine “significantly lower cost” during a pandemic and will evaluate its market value as soon as the virus will take control.
