The American technology company Nvidia is approaching to the agreement to purchase the British chip manufacturer Arm from the Japanese SoftBank. Bloomberg was told by familiar with particular situation Sources. Similar information was also reported by the interlocutors of The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times.
Bloomberg sources said, the operation may be announced next week. Companies were discussing the agreement under which Arm would be valued at about $ 40 billion in cash and stocks, stated two interlocutors. However, the source warned that the agreement is not yet signed, and negotiations may result in nothing. Representatives from Nvidia and SoftBank refused to comment to Bloomberg.
As per Bloomberg and WSJ, the agreement on purchase the Arm may be the largest in the history of the field of semiconductors. At the same time, any possible deal probably will attract the attention of regulators and will be the subject of complaints from companies such as Samsung, Apple, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Intel or Huawei. Bloomberg explains that all of these companies use Arm developments in their products. The company has taken a successful niche precisely because it has remained independent, and the agreement with Nvidia can put this neutrality into question. The acquisition of the company by the Japanese SoftBank was not challenged because the conglomerate was not a competitor of any of Arm’s customers.
