German Lufthansa has accepted a new restructuring package

24.09.2020 News

German airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG on Monday took the third package of measures restructuring of business because of poor dynamic aviation market recovery, according to a press release.

“Forecasts for international flights have deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. With the end of the summer holiday season, the number of passengers and bookings is declining again after minor signs of recovery in July and August, “- said in a press release.

Thereby, the Management of Deutsche Lufthansa AG has approved the third restructuring package under the Lufthansa Group-wide ReNew program. The decisions of the board include a reassessment of the projected capacity utilization of the company: if before the Deutsche Lufthansa AG expected for the fourth quarter a level of production activity of 50% of the corresponding figure a year earlier, but now “while maintaining current trends” passenger traffic is expected in the amount of 20-30% of 2019 figures. The company plans to reduce its fleet by 150 aircraft to 2025. In addition to the previously announced shortage in the fleet, the company will send to the hangars eight A380 aircraft and ten A340-600, which can be used only in the event of an “unexpectedly rapid recovery of the market”, in addition, seven A340-600 will be written off.

As a result, new reductions in the fleet will reduce the value of assets by 1.1 billion euros. The decisions made by the board will also increase the number of “staff surplus”, which now has 22,000 employees in the state. The question of optimizing the number of employees will be discussed with representatives of the company’s employees. The outflow of funds from the company is currently 500 million euros per month, the company expects to reduce this figure to 400 million in the first quarter of 2021. Since then a new management structure will be introduced, which will allow to abandon 20% of managers. The company’s office space will also be optimized, in Germany 30% of office space will be reduced.

The press release also notes that the board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG considers it necessary for the entire aviation industry to expand the number of tests for coronavirus before sending the passengers.
