Airbus will lay off 15,000 employees due to the quarantine

06.10.2020 News

European airline Airbus will lay off 15,000 employees worldwide due to the restoration of the quarantine restrictions on the flights. This was stated by the Airbus Chief Operating Officer Michael Schollhorn.

Prospects for the aviation industry deteriorated again due to the growing number of the coronavirus infections, he said.

According to Schollhorn, the situation in the early autumn was worse than the concern’s management expected in the summer. Due to the air travel restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, the airlines have stopped buying the new aircraft.

The chief operating officer of the Airbus called the future reduction of 15 thousand employees the minimum in this situation. However, he said that the concern does not plan to close its enterprises – particular, in Germany.
