Boeing received the first order for the 737 Max after lifting the ban on flights to the United States

08.12.2020 News

Ryanair has made a multibillion-dollar order for a Boeing 737 Max, reports the Financial Times, citing the head of the carrier Michael O’Leary. This is the first agreement with the plane after the investigation of two plane crashes involving it, which in 2018 claimed more than 300 lives.

Vertical Research Partners aerospace analyst Rob Stallard stated that Ryanair “never intended” to expand its fleet with a new type of aircraft, but “it all came down to money.” The amount of such an order is about $ 8 billion, writes FT. Aircraft are usually sold at a discount of about 50% of the prices in the catalog, but in the current environment, the decline was probably even greater, said the interlocutors of the publication. Representatives of Ryanair and Boeing told the newspaper that the agreement provides for a “moderate price reduction.”

Earlier, Reuters reported on Ryanair’s readiness to order Boeing 75 additional 737 MAX aircraft with reference to interlocutors in the aircraft industry. The agency reported that the carrier could pay for ships only a third of the list price.

Against the background of news of a new order, the value of Boeing shares on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) rose by 7.77% and reached $ 241.23.
