The coronavirus epidemic in the world will intensify by the end of this year due to the seasonality of the infection, but in early 2021 the situation will improve. This opinion was expressed by the head of Microsoft Bill Gates at the virtual conference GeekWire Summit. This was reported by Inc.
“The good news is that by the end of the year or the beginning of the next, more effective therapies will begin to appear, especially monoclonal antibodies,” he said.
Gates explained that monoclonal antibodies are formed by cloning immune cells – leukocytes. These antibodies are specifically targeted to specific areas on the pathogen particles.
Experimental treatment with the monoclonal antibodies was given to US President Donald Trump, who recently fell ill with COVID-19, the head of Microsoft reminded. He predicted that by early 2021, two or three of the first six monoclonal-based drugs currently in the final phase of testing would be “likely to be approved.”
