The American satellite company Kymeta announced the attraction of $ 85.2 million in the last round of financing. The round was led by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who invested $ 78.5 million in the startup.
Kymeta develops and manufactures high-speed satellite systems and antennas. The main product of the company is a flat satellite antenna with electronic control. The startup creates small devices capable of receiving a signal from anywhere in the world. The latest development of Kymeta – terminal u8, able to communicate with different satellites – from ViaSat to much closer and small satellites such as Starlink by SpaceX, which are located in low Earth orbit. The device is planned to be released by the end of the year.
The startup has attracted funding as the company seeks to increase production and sales of its products. “After all, the problem our customers want to solve is a highly reliable broadband service,” said Kymeta CEO Doug Hutcheson.
Since its inception in 2012, Kymeta has raised about $ 300 million in total funding. Among its investors – company Lux Capital, Intelsat and Liberty Global. Kymeta now has about 200 employees. The company expects that their number will grow steadily next year.
