Porsche is going through one of its toughest periods in recent years — the company’s profit plummeted by 99%, while the brand prepares to end production of three internal combustion engine models, including the popular Macan crossover, Carscoops reports.
The current gasoline-powered Macan will remain in production until mid-2026 and will continue to be sold throughout the year — and in some regions even into 2027 thanks to existing inventory.
The company plans to build up stock in key regions to bridge the gap before the arrival of the next-generation model. The new Macan will feature both traditional and hybrid powertrains, complementing the current Macan Electric. The upcoming model is expected to be built on the Audi Q5 platform.
At the same time, Porsche is ending production of the 718 Boxster and Cayman, with the final units rolling off the assembly line this month. The next-generation 718 will also include internal combustion engine versions.
Meanwhile, Porsche has abandoned plans for a fully electric flagship SUV — it will now come in gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions instead.
Despite record sales in the U.S., the financial performance is disappointing: Porsche’s operating profit fell from over €4 billion to just €40 million in the first nine months of 2025. The company attributed the decline to “challenging market conditions in China,” product line adjustments, battery program expenses, and high tariffs expected to cost around €700 million annually.
However, despite the sharp profit drop, Porsche’s net cash flow actually increased — from €1.24 billion to €1.34 billion, indicating resilient operational performance even under unfavorable conditions.
