Nissan Motor suffered a loss of $ 3.1 billion

The net loss of the Japanese automaker Nissan Motor in the first half of 2020-2021 fiscal year amounted to 330 billion yen ($ 3.1 billion) against a profit of 65.4 billion yen (about $ 620 million) a year earlier, follows from the financial statements of the company.

The loss per share was 84.33 yen ($ 0.8) against earnings of 16.7 yen ($ 0.16) in the same period a year earlier. Revenue fell 38.2% to 3.1 trillion yen ($ 29.4 billion).

Nissan’s net loss for the second quarter of the fiscal year was 44.4 billion yen ($ 421 million) against a profit of 59 billion yen ($ 559.5 million) a year earlier. The loss per share was 11.34 yen ($ 0.1) against earnings of 15.07 yen ($ 0.14) a year earlier.

Revenue fell 27 percent to 1.92 trillion yen ($ 18.2 billion).

Over the past six months, the company has sold 1.699 million cars worldwide, which is 32.1% lower than a year ago.

The company also improved its forecast for the current financial year. Nissan now expects revenue of 7.94 trillion yen ($ 75.3 billion) instead of the previously expected 7.8 trillion yen ($ 74 billion).

Shareholders’ net loss is projected at 615 billion yen ($ 5.8 billion), up from 670 billion yen ($ 6.3 billion) in the summer. By the end of the financial year, the company expects to deliver 4.165 million cars, instead of 4.125 million as previously expected.

“Nissan has revised its annual forecast to improve commercial costs, as well as financial, production and fixed costs,” the company explains.
