The global tourism industry could lose 120 million jobs due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. This was stated in a video message by UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres.
According to him, tourism has become one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic, and no country has been unaffected by the sharp decline in international travel.
“About 120 million jobs worldwide are at risk, many of them in the informal sector and small businesses. The sharp drop in export revenues related to tourism could reduce global GDP by 2.8%. At the same time, the most difficult situation is among the most vulnerable groups and countries, “he said.
Guterres believes that it is very important to restructure the tourism sector so that it becomes safe and able to regain its position as a source of jobs and stable incomes.
