Carmaker Audi ended the first half of 2025 with alarming figures: net profit dropped by 37.5% compared to the previous year, amounting to just €1.3 billion, according to Bild.
This marks the third consecutive year of declining financial results for the company. For comparison, in 2022, Audi reported a profit of €4.4 billion.
Analysts cite the main reasons for the decline as high U.S. tariffs, falling sales in China, and the costly restructuring of the group. The premium brands within the group, Bentley and Lamborghini, have suffered the most.
Audi, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, has been forced to revise its annual revenue forecast to between €65–70 billion. The company’s only hope is a potential EU–U.S. agreement to reduce tariffs.
Audi’s CFO, Jürgen Rittersberger, stated that the additional U.S. tariffs alone cost the company €600 million. Unlike BMW, Audi does not have a manufacturing plant in the U.S., so all the expenses fell directly on the group.
Additionally, the restructuring in Germany, which includes laying off 7,500 employees, also cost the company another €600 million.
