The European regulator on personal data protection has sent a preliminary order to American Facebook to stop the transfer of data of its users in the United States, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the situation.
“The EU’s privacy regulator has sent a preliminary order to Facebook for suspending the transfer of data from its users to the United States,” the statement said. One source said that the previous order was sent by the Irish Commission for the Protection of User Data on Facebook at the end of last month.
The newspaper notes that Facebook will probably have to reorganize its service or temporarily suspend service to European users. The sources clarified that the Irish regulator gave Facebook the time to respond until mid-September.
