A subsidiary of Alibaba Group – Ant Group – plans to attract $ 35 billion in the course on the Shanghai and the Hong Kong exchange. This was reported by Bloomberg. The IPO could be the largest in history, the agency emphasizes. The previous record holder, Saudi oil company Aramco, raised $ 29.4 billion.
The underwriters will be banks of the China International Capital Corp., Citigroup, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley. According to the publication, Ant’s ambitious plans are related to a change in the company’s valuation, which grew from $ 225 billion to $ 250 billion (for comparison – PayPal is estimated at $ 206 billion, and Mastercard – at $ 335 billion).
Earlier, the company planned to raise only $ 30 billion. Terms of the placement are still not specified.
Ant Group owns the largest Chinese`s online payment operator Alipay. In the first half of the year, its revenue amounted to $ 10.5 billion, and profit – about $ 3.2 billion.
According to the British version of WIred, Alipay was launched in 2004, but gained real popularity only in 2009 after the launch of e-wallets. Due to the lack of plastic cards and the abundance of smartphones, the service quickly gained popularity: in the first six months of its operation, the number of users jumped from 100 million to 150 million. Since 2011, Ant has been allocated into a separate company.
