According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the country’s GDP grew by 4.9% year on year in the third quarter.
China’s economy is recovering the fastest in the world from the COVID-19 pandemic – GDP decline by closing factories and quarantine in the first quarter of the year already fully compensated, and the economy is already adding 0.7% compared to the first nine months of 2019. However, economists expected more from the Chinese economy in the third quarter: Bloomberg`s analysts forecast an average of China’s GDP growth of 5.5% this quarter.
The growth of the economy is facilitated by the rapid recovery of the industrial production – for the reporting three months, its volumes increased by 5.8% compared to the previous year, which is 1.4% faster than in the second quarter. Agricultural production continues to grow at the rate of 3.8% over the previous year.
Retail also started to growth – retail sales grew by 0.9% in the quarter. However, in the first nine months, sales were 7.2% lower than last year.
