Apple Demands Suppliers Automate Production

10.09.2025 News

Apple is seeking to significantly accelerate the adoption of automation across its supply chain and now even requires manufacturers to use robotic systems as a mandatory condition for securing contracts, DigiTimes reports.

According to sources, the policy covers all key products—from iPhones and iPads to Macs and Apple Watches. Previously, Apple often invested in specialized equipment for its partners, but now suppliers must finance modernization on their own. This has already affected profitability, as high upfront costs and the challenges of integrating new systems reduce margins.

The company explains the new requirements as part of its efforts to reduce reliance on human labor, standardize production quality across countries, lower long-term costs, and more quickly onboard new suppliers. Automation is also expected to help address challenges related to labor shortages, political instability, and the geographical dispersion of production.

At the same time, Apple continues to support partners on sustainability initiatives, particularly by helping them switch to energy-efficient equipment and sustainable materials as part of its plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
