In particular, more than 2.4 million new cases and 36,000 new deaths have been registered in the past week, “the organization’s newsletter said.
The most severe epidemic situation is observed in North and South America. In total, more than 798,000 people became infected in the region from October 12 to 18, and the total number of infected exceeded 18.8 million. More than 16,000 deaths were reported in seven days, and as of October 18, the total number of fatalities was over 608,000.
At the same time, Europe saw a 25 percent increase in the morbidity compared to the previous week. The number of those infected increased by more than 927,000 to more than 8 million people. More than 8,000 people died in a week, and the total number of deaths exceeded to 256,000 people.
