In the first six months of 2025, Ukraine exported goods worth $20.0 billion, down 4.2% compared to the same period last year. Imports amounted to $38.6 billion, according to the State Statistics Service.
“In the first half of 2025, goods exports totaled $20,044.9 million, or 95.8% compared to the first half of 2024, while imports reached $38,557.1 million, or 115.6%,” the statement reads.
The negative trade balance for the half-year was $18.51 billion, compared to $12.43 billion in the first half of 2024. The export-to-import coverage ratio fell to 0.52 from 0.63 a year earlier.
Foreign trade operations were conducted with partners from 221 countries worldwide.
During the half-year, Ukraine increased exports compared to last year in several categories: electric machinery by 12.9% (to $1.25 billion), ferrous metals by 5.0% (to $1.54 billion), and animal or vegetable fats and oils by 2.6% (to $3.16 billion).
Meanwhile, grain exports fell by 24.2% compared to the first half of 2024, totaling $3.99 billion.
The main drivers of import growth compared to last year were: electric machinery supplies, up 70.7% (total $5.56 billion); mineral fuels, oil and petroleum products, up 21% ($5.14 billion); land vehicles other than railway, up 7.7% ($4.19 billion); and nuclear reactors, boilers, and machinery, up 7.3% ($3.35 billion).
