Shell will write down $22 billion of assets

07.07.2020 News

In the second quarter of 2020, the Anglo-Dutch oil and gas corporation Royal Dutch Shell will write down assets worth up to $22 billion on new oil and gas price forecasts. This was reported in the press release of the company.

Shell revised its medium- and long-term price forecasts, reflecting the expected effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the macroeconomic situation related to it, as well as supply and demand in the energy market. The new forecast for the price of Brent crude oil for 2020 is $35 per barrel, $40 per barrel for 2021, $50 and $60 per barrel for 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Regarding the price forecast for Henry Hub (a gas hub playing a major role in shaping the US natural gas prices), in 2020 they are expected to average $1.75 per million BTU (British thermal units, MMBtu) , $2.5 per MMBtu in 2021 and 2022, and in the long term $3 per MMBtu.

“Based on these revisions, total expenses from impairment of assets after taxes in the range of $15 to $22 billion are expected in the second quarter,” Shell informs.

Royal Dutch Shell produces and processes hydrocarbons in more than 70 countries.
