Ukraine has stepped up its efforts to combat illegal online gambling websites, according to the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Since the beginning of the year, the country’s gambling regulator, PlayCity, has submitted 6,668 illegal websites for blocking—more than twice the number blocked during the entire previous year.
Authorities have significantly improved response times through the use of digital monitoring tools and closer coordination among government agencies.
The blocking process has also become much faster. After PlayCity submits a request to the National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications (NCEC), access to an illegal website can now be restricted within 24 hours.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation emphasized that efforts to further improve the system are ongoing. To support this work, an interagency task force has been established, bringing together representatives of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the National Bank of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the NCEC, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, and the National Center for Operational and Technical Network Management.
The next objective, the ministry said, is to enable internet service providers to block illegal gambling websites within minutes of their detection.
