South Korean electronics maker Samsung Electronics has signed an agreement with US cellular operator Verizon to supply $ 6.64 billion worth of 5G equipment to the United States, reported Reuters.
According to Samsung representative, the order concerns to supply of network equipment. Company declined to comment on the detailed terms of the contract. Noted that the agreement is valid from June 30, 2020 to December 31, 2025.
“After the conclusion of this long-term strategic contract we will continue to expand the application of 5G technology to ensure the comfort of Verizon`s customers, – Reuters quoted the Samsung`s message.
In August 2018, US President Donald Trump signed a decree that banned American agencies use equipment produced by Chinese Huawei and ZTE, for national security reasons. In July, the British government also voiced solution, according to which British telecommunications companies are banned from buying Huawei 5G equipment from 2021, and by 2027, such equipment should be completely phased out of 5G networks, adding that new suppliers such as Samsung Electronics need to be attracted.
Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said that from last July that the company does not use Huawei equipment.
