For the first time, the Baltic States have given up electricity from Russia

14.04.2021 News

For the first time in history, the Baltic States have completely given up electricity from Russia during the tests for the exit from the BRELL energy ring (Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania – ed.), Scheduled for 2025.

It is noted that Latvia suspended commercial imports from Russia for two days (April 8 and 11) during the test shutdown of the transmission line between Belarus and Lithuania before the Baltic countries left the BRELL energy ring without explanation. The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation reported that the power outage between Belarus and Lithuania did not affect the operation of the Russian power system.

These days in Russia due to the cessation of export supplies fell demand and electricity prices, in the Baltics, on the contrary, rose.
