BMW is undergoing a leadership change: the Supervisory Board has appointed Milan Nedeljković as the new Chief Executive Officer, Motor1 reports. He will replace Oliver Zipse on May 14, 2026. The rotation was expected — BMW has an age limit for board members, usually set at 60. Zipse has already exceeded this threshold, and the company extended his term to age 62. A similar exception was made for Nedeljković, who is currently 56.

The new head of BMW takes over during a major overhaul of the model lineup. The Neue Klasse strategy developed under Zipse is launching a true “automotive storm”: from now until the end of 2027, the company will introduce around 40 new or refreshed models. The first step was the debut of the next-generation all-electric BMW iX3.

2026 will be particularly eventful. BMW will unveil the eighth-generation 3 Series and the electric i3 sedan, as well as launch the fifth-generation X5 — for the first time in a fully electric version. A hydrogen variant, developed jointly with Toyota, will follow later, but not before 2028.

The 7 Series is also set for an update, and the X4 may return — now exclusively as the all-electric iX4. In parallel, BMW plans to refresh the Alpina brand, which the company acquired in 2022: new Alpina 7 Series and X7 models are expected.

According to media reports, by the end of the decade BMW’s lineup may expand by at least three new models. These include a new SUV positioned as a competitor to the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, as well as two affordable electric vehicles: the five-door i1 hatchback and the four-door i2 sedan. Electric crossovers iX4, iX5, and possibly iX6 and iX7 are also in development, and an i3 Touring may appear for station wagon enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, the controversial iX may not receive a successor — BMW is planning several large electric crossovers in the same segment. The future of the XM is also uncertain, as its sales remain low.
