Ukraine’s defense technology cluster Brave1 has announced the results of its first grant competition aimed at expanding domestic explosives production. Six Ukrainian companies have been selected to receive funding, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
According to Fedorov, each company will be capable of producing at least seven tons of explosives per month, with the potential to scale up production in the future.
The total value of the selected projects amounts to UAH 944 million, including UAH 620 million in state co-financing. The funding will support the establishment of new production lines, expand manufacturing capacity, and provide critical components for Ukraine’s defense industry. The initiative is expected to strengthen domestic production of ammunition, missiles, drones, and other defense systems.
“Explosives production is just one of the areas we are investing in today,” Fedorov said. “Our current priorities include accelerating the robotization of the battlefield to help save the lives of our service members, developing low-cost cruise missiles powered by artificial intelligence technologies, creating affordable Ukrainian radar systems for short-range air defense, and advancing directed-energy weapons, including laser-based air defense systems that are already undergoing testing.”
He also announced an expansion of the Brave1 grant program, with 53 new technological priorities added. These include materials and components for missile production, swarm technologies, autonomous drones, precision-guided munitions, underwater drones, electronic warfare systems designed to counter guided aerial bombs and missiles, laser weapons, and other technologies expected to shape the next generation of modern warfare.
Under the updated program, Ukrainian developers will be eligible to receive grants ranging from UAH 500,000 to UAH 8 million to support the development of their defense technologies.
