Automaker Ford is recalling more than 103,000 F-150 pickup trucks in the U.S. due to an issue with axle bolts that may break, potentially causing the vehicle to roll away or lose drive power. The announcement was made by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The axle bolt defect may damage components that transfer power from the axle to the wheels and help them rotate. This could result in the vehicle rolling when parked without the parking brake engaged, or a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the U.S. auto safety agency.
Dealers will replace the rear axle assemblies free of charge.
The recall affects 2023–2025 model year Ford F-150 trucks. NHTSA estimates that about 1% of the vehicles have the defect.
