The Netherlands and China reach agreement on oversight of chipmaker Nexperia

21.11.2025 News

The Dutch government has suspended an order that previously allowed authorities to take control of Nexperia, a chip manufacturer owned by China’s Wingtech Technology Co. This was reported by the Associated Press.

The decision was made following “constructive” negotiations with Chinese authorities over a dispute that had been disrupting global automotive component supply chains.

Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans stated on Wednesday that suspending the intervention in Nexperia’s governance is a gesture of goodwill while talks with Beijing continue.

The Dutch government took control of Nexperia on September 30, citing national security concerns and “serious governance deficiencies.” Officials said they aimed to prevent the loss of critical technological know-how that could threaten Europe’s economic security.

Authorities’ main concern was the possibility that the company could move operations to China. The decree allowed the government to block or overturn decisions made by Nexperia’s management if they were deemed harmful to Europe’s component supply chains.

In response, Beijing imposed an export ban on several components manufactured by Nexperia in China on October 4. After negotiations, China agreed to lift the ban in November.
