Meta has acquired the startup Assured Robot Intelligence, which develops artificial intelligence models for robots. The deal is part of the company’s broader initiative to build technologies for humanoid robots, Bloomberg reports.
According to Meta, the startup’s technologies are “at the forefront of robotic intelligence,” enabling robots to understand, predict, and adapt to human behavior in complex environments.
The Assured Robot Intelligence team, including co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, will join Meta’s research division, Meta Superintelligence Labs, and work alongside the Meta Robotics Studio team, which was established last year to develop foundational humanoid technologies.
Meta is actively investing in humanoid robots capable of moving like humans and performing physical tasks. This sector is also gaining momentum among other major companies, including Tesla, Google, and Amazon.
According to the company, specialists from Assured Robot Intelligence will focus on developing models and advanced capabilities for robot control, as well as machine self-learning, which is expected to enable full-body motion control in humanoids.
At the same time, Meta’s robotics team is working on its own hardware and software for humanoid robots. This includes sensors, algorithms, and other technologies that Meta plans to make available to other companies in the industry.
The company’s goal is to build a foundation for the humanoid robotics market, similar to how Google’s Android and Qualcomm chips became the backbone of the smartphone industry. In this way, Meta aims to offer a platform that can be used by a wide range of robot manufacturers.
