In September 2015 it became known that diesel engines VW and Audi brands have been equipped with special incorrect installation that could not detect the level of emissions when they were being tested. So because of this program, the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere while driving on such cars exceeded all established norms, which in the USA much higher than in other countries.
Later, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided to test SUVs and other large luxury cars, although earlier they blamed only on small-engine cars. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said they need to check the number of vehicles produced since 2009.
On the 2nd of November, 2015 during a meeting of members of VW and Audi with officials from EPA, the last said that a number of production machines since 2009 to 2015 with a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engines are equipped with special programs that hide the level of emissions. In total, according to representatives of the Environment Agency, the number of such cars reached 85,000.
At first, representatives of VW and Audi denied the charges, but later the press secretary of Audi Brad Sterts admitted that additional software was installed, but in many European countries it is absolutely legal. Sterts promised that in the future their company will develop a program that will suit all the parameters.
After that scandal in September 2015, VW can get a fine of 18 billion dollars, and for now this amount can be extended for another $ 3.2 billion.
