Sales growth for Volvo Cars in the first quarter of 2021 was 40.8% compared to the same period last year. He became the best in the history of the Swedish automaker.
Total sales for this period reached 185,698 cars, compared to 131,889 cars for the same period last year. Compared to the first quarter of last year, in Europe and the United States, the company was able to improve sales, overcoming the long-term effects of the pandemic. China has now coped with the effects of the pandemic, which reached its peak in the first quarter of 2020, – said a statement.
During March, Volvo sold 75,315 cars worldwide, up 62.3% from the same period last year.
It is noted that Volvo’s line of cars called Recharge, which consists of fully electric cars or plug-in hybrid models, accounted for 26% of all sales. In Europe, the share of Recharge cars in total sales was 39%.
In March, the XC40 became a bestseller – 23,958 cars sold (12,462 in 2020), followed by the XC60 with total sales of 21,186 cars (12,730) and the Volvo XC90 with 9,893 cars (5,758).
During the first three months of 2021, Volvo’s sales in China increased by 117.7% (45,242 cars), in the United States by 39.8% (27,239), and in Europe by 24% (87,457).
