The Italian Competition and Market Administration has fined the Irish airline Ryanair 4.2 million euros for the fact that the carrier did not reimburse the cost of tickets for canceled flights after June 3, 2020.
It is noted that the Antimonopoly Office recognized this practice as unfair after the easing of restrictions on movement in force in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
The newspaper points out that two other low-cost carriers, Britain’s EasyJet and Spain’s Volotea, were previously fined € 2.8 million and € 1.4 million respectively. According to the regulator, these companies under the pretext of a pandemic continued to cancel flights, tickets for which, in particular, were sold at a reduced price. At the same time, the cost of tickets was not reimbursed, and vouchers for future trips were offered.
In addition, Ryanair is exposed for conducting an incorrect advertising campaign for consumers, providing inaccurate or false information about the possibility of exchanging a ticket without penalties.
