The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) intends to invest in a number of important projects in Ukraine, including the modernization of transport infrastructure and the energy sector. This was discussed during a meeting between Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and EBRD President Odile Reno-Basso, the press service of the Ministry of Finance reports.
Odile Reno-Basso said that in further cooperation with the EBRD, the Bank’s support for public sector projects, increasing investment in modernization projects and further development of transport infrastructure in Ukraine, support for the energy sector and other important projects will be important issues.
Marchenko noted that Ukraine is interested in stabilizing the energy market as soon as possible, and added about the possibility of issuing government-guaranteed bonds on international capital markets to cover debt to alternative energy producers in the first half of 2021.
“Last year during the pandemic we had a number of quarantine restrictions, but we were able to conclude agreements on important projects, such as the Ukrposhta Development Project (logistics network and rural branches) and the Trans-European Transport Network Development”. I would also like to thank the EBRD for its liquidity support projects at UkSATSE and JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, the Minister of Finance said.
In addition, the meeting discussed the issue of Oschadbank’s accession to the Deposit Guarantee Fund, which is the first step towards the EBRD’s entry into the bank’s capital.
