In Russia, 14 Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) aircraft are operating flights with structural defects in the fuselage.
The issue was reported to Rosaviatsia by the aircraft manufacturer, PJSC Yakovlev. The aviation regulator has ordered airlines operating these jets to carry out inspections and, if necessary, repairs.
“The defects concern aircraft with serial numbers 95104–95117. All of them were produced in 2016. According to russianplanes.net, these SSJ-100s are operated by Rossiya Airlines (one aircraft), Azimuth (one), and Yamal (five). Several others are in storage with various companies, including Sukhoi Design Bureau and Yamal, among others,” the site reports.
According to Yakovlev, in several places the stringers — structural elements connecting the fuselage — were not properly fixed. In particular, problems with fastening may exist between the cockpit and the passenger doors.
To inspect the aircraft, airline technicians have been instructed to carry out a detailed check of the skin, frames, beams, and stringers for folds, cracks, deformations, and loosened bolted or riveted joints. This will require removing the door-frame lining, the lavatory module, and thermal/acoustic insulation mats. Technicians are also required to use a telescopic mirror and magnifying glass to detect possible micro-damage.
