China Begins Purchasing Russian Gas from Sanctioned Project

22.09.2025 News

The fourth LNG carrier involved in transporting liquefied natural gas from the sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 project has arrived at the Beihai LNG terminal in China, Reuters reported, citing LSEG data.

The LNG tanker Buran is currently at the port of Tieshan, located in China’s Guangxi region, according to vessel tracking data.

The first delivery from Arctic LNG-2 to a buyer since the plant’s launch at the end of 2023 was reported in late August. That shipment was made to this terminal by the LNG tanker Arctic Mulan, followed in early September by the carriers Voskhod and Zarya.

Shipments from Arctic LNG-2 have been complicated by the risk of secondary sanctions and a shortage of LNG tanker capacity.
