At 27th of November, 2015 the famous American company REI, which sells products for sports, tourism and travel, reported that on Friday – 30th of November, all 143 stores will be closed. The company decided to arrange for their employees a paid for the output. This decision is a kind of protest against rampant consumerism. Unlike other companies that will break records of sailes on this day – REI employees spend the day with their families, while receiving compensation for the output.
Jerry Stritsky – Chapter of REI , noted that since the activities of the company over the years has been directed to help people pass the rest comfortably, in the “Black Friday”, they want to remind everyone how important it is to spend time “outside”.
It is noteworthy that the REI’s idea was supported by bodies for the protection of the environment and ecology in several states. Representatives of the departments in Tennessee, Delaware, Oregon and Kansas, said that the company made a wise decision, and called on the people in that day to visit the national parks and spend time outdoors. The report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control of Delaware, noted that REI did the right thing, departing from the trend this year in order to give its 12,000 employees a paid day off. The Department of Environment and Nature Tennessee also praised the idea of ??the company, and invited all its employees in that day to visit the State Park, Tennessee.
