In September Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris said in his twitter about of his thoughts of ??buying the island somewhere in Greece or in Italy, to settle migrants and refugees there. This proposal was very popular in twitter, so Sawiris, who is one of the ten richest people in Africa, whose fortune is estimated at $ 3 billion, has decided to realize the promise in real life.
At 18th of November, 2015 Sawiris announced the creation of a joint stock company that will accept donations for the refugees and organize transporting people to the island and other issues. Currently Sawiris has created a team of people who possess the necessary knowledge for the successful organization of the planned project. The billionaire spoke about the concept of the company, the creation of which is allocated 100 million dollars.
Now he is interested in 17 Greek islands in order to determine which one will be most advantageous to accommodate refugees, and where it will be most appropriate in the future to build a business.
Currently, the billionaire is awaiting for the answer from the Greek government to call his future island Aylan after 3-years old boy, Syrian refugee who tragically drowned. Press approached for comments on the matter to the Greek government and the UN agency for Refugees, but all requests have not yet received any comments.
Sawiris has always been distinguished for its ideas “to invest in the new”. For example, in 2008 his company Oracsom launched the first mobile communications and the Internet in North Korea, that was before closed for External Communications. Also, a large number of investment the billionaire is willing to give to the native Egyptian economy (around 500 million dollars).
