Chinese automakers have shown rapid growth in European sales during the first half of 2025. According to a report by analytics firm Jato Dynamics, sales of Chinese brands in Europe rose by 91% year-over-year from January to June, reaching 347,135 units. As a result, their market share nearly doubled — from 2.7% in 2024 to 5.1% this year.
In terms of volume, Chinese brands have already overtaken Ford, which holds a 3.8% share, and are closing in on Mercedes-Benz, which stands at 5.2%. In fact, in June, Chinese automakers surpassed Mercedes-Benz in monthly sales in Europe for the first time.
The sharpest growth came from five brands: BYD, Jaecoo, Omoda, Leapmotor, and Xpeng.
Notably, BYD, known for its aggressive pricing strategy, sold 70,500 vehicles in the first half of the year — a 311% increase compared to last year. In June alone, the company registered 15,565 vehicles, surpassing brands like Suzuki, Mini, and Jeep, and entering the top 25 most popular brands of the month.
Jaecoo and Omoda, sub-brands of Chery, also showed significant growth — though not mainly through electric vehicles. In June, 29% of their registrations were plug-in hybrids, while 63% were traditional internal combustion engine models.
Leapmotor registered over 8,300 new vehicles in June, with its compact sedan T03 and crossover C10 seeing the highest demand.
Xpeng, meanwhile, became the most successful Chinese premium brand in Europe for the first half of 2025, registering 8,338 vehicles, including 5,615 units of its G6 model.
