Ukraine’s economic growth in 2026 is expected to remain at the same level as this year — 2%, with an acceleration to 5% now projected only in 2027, according to the latest World Bank report.
“Economic growth in Ukraine is projected to slow. GDP growth is likely to decelerate to 2% in 2025 from 2.9% in 2024, as Russia’s prolonged invasion continues to weigh on investment and business activity,” the report “Europe and Central Asia Economic Update: Jobs and Prosperity” states.
Earlier, in June 2025, the World Bank expected a faster recovery — forecasting 5.2% growth in 2025 followed by a slowdown to 4.5% in 2027.
The report notes that Ukraine’s gas imports have reached their highest level in nearly two years, as Russian missile strikes on infrastructure have curtailed domestic production.
A decline in agricultural exports has also constrained growth, driven by unfavorable weather conditions and the European Union’s reinstatement of pre-war trade restrictions, which tightened export rules for key Ukrainian agribusiness products. During the first half of 2025, export value fell by nearly 5%, primarily due to reduced shipments to the EU, which accounts for almost 60% of Ukraine’s total exports.
World Bank analysts emphasize that Ukraine’s economy is undergoing a structural transformation, with new sectors emerging and productivity improving in existing ones — trends expected to support future employment growth. Among the current sectors, information technology (IT) and digital industries have shown remarkable resilience since February 2022 and are likely to continue driving job creation.
“Agriculture and agrifood processing have been Ukraine’s main comparative advantages since 2014, and improvements in productivity and value-chain development hold strong potential for job creation. Logistics, energy, and construction are also expected to become key employment and growth sectors during the recovery phase,” the report states.
In addition, the defense industry and related technologies are emerging as promising new sectors, likely to benefit from recent technological advances and sustained high demand — creating new high-skilled jobs and supporting long-term economic resilience.
