Microsoft Corp. is in talks to buy Nuance Communications Inc., a developer of a speech and text recognition solution, for about $ 16 billion, several U.S. media outlets reported, citing informed sources.
According to them, negotiations are at an advanced stage, and the announcement of the agreement may be made in the coming days.
Microsoft is offering to pay $ 56 a share for Nuance, which is 23% higher than their market closing price on Friday. If the negotiations succeed, the deal will be the second largest for Microsoft after the acquisition of LinkedIn for $ 27 billion in 2016, according to CNBC.
Nuance’s net profit in the fourth quarter was $ 7 million. Revenue fell 4% to $ 346 million. The company was founded in 1992. At the end of September last year, its staff numbered 7.1 thousand people.
Shares of Microsoft shares rose 1% on Friday, Nuance – by 0.8%.
Microsoft’s capitalization has increased by 15% since the beginning of this year, and by 55% in the last twelve months. The market value of Nuance increased by 3.4% and 168%, respectively, and is now about $ 13 billion.
