Elon Musk has announced that his company xAI plans to immediately file a lawsuit against Apple, accusing it of violating antitrust laws, AppleInsider reports. According to Musk, the iPhone maker is allegedly promoting OpenAI’s ChatGPT while ignoring his Grok app and the social media platform X, by not featuring them in the “Must Have” section.
He claims that integrating ChatGPT into iOS is evidence of bias, and that users should be given a choice — for example, between Grok and ChatGPT.
Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation.xAI will take immediate legal action.

Although X tops the free news app rankings and holds 38th place among all free apps, and Grok ranks sixth overall and second in the “Productivity” category, Musk believes Apple is preventing them from climbing higher. Users added context notes under Musk’s post pointing out that companies like DeepSeek and Perplexity have already overtaken ChatGPT several times even after OpenAI’s partnership with Apple.
Musk also noted that TikTok, Tinder, Duolingo, YouTube, and ChatGPT are prominently promoted in App Store’s featured sections, while Grok never appears there. The X social network is also excluded from curated lists like “Everything for Social Media” or other themed collections, even in the “News” category.
Apple has not commented on whether it has held talks with xAI, and it is unclear whether Grok’s absence from “Must Have” is related to App Store privacy policy compliance. Download rankings are generated automatically rather than manually, and ChatGPT currently outperforms Grok in its category.
