On October 20, the Kyiv Art Gallery Tsekh hosted a presentation of the «Keep It Up!» project created by the artist and sculptor Yevgeny Petrov. The LDaily Business Edition became a media partner of this wonderful project, which highlights the theme of sport. The exhibition is currently open to the public and will be exhibited in the gallery until January 20, 2019.
Yevgeny Petrov is a phenomenal Ukrainian artist, master of watercolor painting and author of art objects. He transmits his ideas in creative surrealistic plots in a combination of realism and modernity styles. His works are famous not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe and the USA.
Sport is the issue of the new Petrov’s project. It had a specific role in different historical times. So, in the twentieth century, sport becomes one of the main tools of propaganda and politics. If we recall Leni Riefenstahl’s “Triumph of Will” or the Olympic Games results during the Cold War, when only the USA or the USSR athletes were the medal winners, we will understand why the sport has become and remains one of the most invested social assets. Today, due to technical progress, even ordinary people could reach sporting triumphs. They invest their time and money in unprofessional sports and share their progress in social networks.
The main purpose of the “Keep It Up!” project is to look deeper, to show people for whom sport remains immanent goal, but not something turned into the cult. Affordance of the works and technical implementation perfectly convey this idea to the viewer. We see different stories of those who literally “got stuck in sports”. The emotions, poses, and situations of the heroes show us the other side of the sport with its competitiveness, where everyone wants to become better, but only one will succeed. That’s why in every work we feel so much empathy for the athletes who put their lives on the altar of primacy, we see the artist’s warm attitude to his characters while in previous exhibitions we have seen an open irony to immigrants, children, vacationers and soldiers.
It’s the first time when Petrov tells his stories in two dimensions at the same time: in flat and in volume. These stories told in watercolors and sculptures made of clay and metal, transformed with epoxy resin and wood, greatly heightens all of your senses, so you can truly remember the plot of each story.
Yevgeny adds his findings to this project continuing his whole history of exhibitions, so all his fans will not only be impressed with a natural sense of artist’s style, but will be delighted once again saying: “Keep it up, Petrov!”.
