The American corporation Google, following other American companies Twitter and Facebook, suspended data requests from the Hong Kong authorities after the new Chinese law entered into force on this autonomous territory.
“Last Wednesday when the law went into effect, we suspended any new data requests from the Hong Kong authorities. We will continue to study the new law in detail,” the press service of Google said.
Facebook and Twitter have previously reported that they are temporarily refusing requests from the Hong Kong authorities to provide personal data to residents of this special administrative district given China’s national security law.
Against the background of the introduction of the law on national security, Hong Kong residents began to refuse to use some messengers and social networks.
On June 30, China’s President Xi Jinping has signed a decree on the entry into force of a law to protect Hong Kong’s national security.
The national security bill has angered Hong Kong’s anti-government forces and a number of Western officials who see it as Beijing’s desire to tighten control over its autonomy.
