Ford’s August sales data show that the electric crossover Mustang Mach-E outsold its gasoline “sibling” by more than two-to-one, according to Carscoops.
Last month, 7,226 Mustang Mach-Es were sold in the U.S. — a 35.3% increase compared to August 2024. By contrast, the traditional gasoline Mustang sold just 3,235 units, or half as many. While that figure was up 2.2% year-over-year, it underscored a clear trend: buyers are increasingly choosing the electric version.
Since the beginning of the year, Mach-E sales have reached 34,319 units (+6.7%), while Mustang sales totaled 31,015 (-8.3%). Analysts attribute the sharp rise in demand for the electric model to the expiration of the federal EV tax credit, which triggered a wave of purchases.
Elsewhere in Ford’s lineup, results were mixed. Sales of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup rose 21.2% in August (3,217 units), but are down nearly 10% year-to-date. The F-Series remained the brand’s bestseller with 68,318 units sold in August, followed by the Explorer with 20,617.
Overall, Ford sold 10,671 EVs in August (+19.3%), but year-to-date sales fell 5.7% to 57,888 units. Hybrids, however, posted strong growth: 18,773 sold in August and more than 155,000 since the start of the year (+24%).
