The invention and distribution of coronavirus vaccines have made nine people billionaires. Euronews reported this with reference to the data of non-governmental organizations.
“Nine new billionaires have a combined net worth of $ 19.3 billion, which is enough to fully vaccinate all people in low-income countries 1.3 times. Meanwhile, those countries have received only 0.2 percent of the total supply of vaccines due to the huge shortage of available doses, despite the fact that they are home to 10 percent of the world’s population, “- said People’s Vaccine (People’s Vaccine), which includes nine NGOs, including Amnesty International, Oxfam and UNAIDS.
Billionaires who have made a fortune on COVID vaccines:
Another eight billionaires have increased their fortunes by $ 32.2 billion through investments in pharmaceutical corporations dealing with coronavirus vaccines.
As Oxfam Health Manager Anna Marriott emphasized, “these billionaires are the embodiment of the huge profits that pharmaceutical corporations derive from being monopolists.”
“These vaccines were funded by the state and should be primarily a global public good, not a private opportunity to make a profit. We urgently need to end this monopoly so that we can increase vaccine production, reduce prices and vaccinate the world.” summed up Marriott.
