Boeing Aerospace Corporation will start producing aircraft that will run entirely on biofuels by 2030.
“To refuel the aircraft with environmentally friendly” fuel “, Boeing will need to modify the engines and other systems of aircraft. In addition, you will need a certificate confirming the safe operation of the aircraft,” – said in a press release.
According to the head of Boeing’s commercial aircraft division, Stena Dela, the corporation is already working with regulators that manufacture the company’s engines and other partners interested in implementing a new type of airliner.
“Biofuels for aviation can be produced from a variety of raw materials, including inedible plants, agricultural and forest waste, which are not subject to recycling of household waste and industrial emissions,” Boeing said.
The press service of the aircraft manufacturer clarified that test flights of equipment on biofuel have already been conducted. However, in real flight practice, aircraft can still operate only on a mixture of jet fuel and environmentally friendly in a ratio of 50/50.
According to the US Department of Energy, the use of new fuels can reduce CO2 emissions by 80%. According to the Air Transport Action Group, which studies more environmentally friendly solutions in aviation, commercial flights now account for about 2% of all greenhouse gas emissions and 12% of all transport emissions.
