About 2,500 Boeing 737s will be tested for malfunction

21.07.2021 News

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered the state airline to inspect about 2,500 Boeing 737 aircraft for defective relays and cabin pressure drops.

“An undetected failure of both relays could slow the crew’s detection of insufficient cabin pressure and result in the crew losing their ability to work due to hypoxia and, as a result, loss of control of the aircraft,” the FAA said.

As explained by the regulator, the liners are equipped with two differential pressure relays, so in case of failure of one of them, the backup continues to function. If both relays are faulty, then at an altitude of more than three thousand meters, the warning system may not work, and the oxygen level in the cabin may fall to dangerously low levels.

Thus, airlines were given 90 days to check and replace relays (if necessary). It is noted that one plane can spend about an hour: from 30 minutes to an hour will take a review and 15 minutes – relay replacement.

It is noted that Boeing has supported the FAA’s orders.
