Approximately 10% of the company’s shares are owned by Chinese automaker BAIC, while another nearly 10% are held by businessman Li Shufu. The company argues that it would not fall under the proposed restrictions because no single Chinese shareholder owns more than 10% of its shares.

Mercedes also emphasized its significant contribution to the U.S. economy, noting that its operations support approximately 160,000 jobs across the country, including manufacturing facilities in Alabama and South Carolina.

The proposed legislation is currently being discussed by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Republican Senator Ted Cruz has criticized the proposed 15% ownership threshold, arguing that it could provide an unfair competitive advantage to American automakers, including General Motors.

At the same time, the bill’s sponsors have stated that they do not intend to ban Mercedes-Benz vehicles outright. The proposed legislation would allow automakers to apply to the U.S. Department of Commerce for exemptions.

In addition to Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and BMW could also be affected by the proposed regulations due to their cooperation with Chinese suppliers.

The United States is currently the second-largest market for Mercedes-Benz worldwide.

[9
["post-151988","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
