The acquisition will strengthen Lockheed Martin’s position in the naval defense sector amid growing global demand for advanced military capabilities.

Upon completion of the transaction, Ultra Maritime will become part of Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) business, which develops naval combat systems, helicopters, electronic warfare technologies, radar systems, command-and-control solutions, and maritime defense platforms. In 2025, the division generated $17.3 billion in revenue and employed approximately 35,000 people worldwide.

Demand for defense products continues to rise as a result of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, conflicts across the Middle East, and the substantial increase in U.S. defense spending. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has requested a record $1.5 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2027, encouraging major defense contractors to expand both their technological capabilities and production capacity.

Ultra Maritime is one of the world’s leading developers of anti-submarine warfare technologies. The company manufactures advanced sonar systems, submarine detection solutions, protection systems for surface vessels and submarines, as well as other naval defense equipment supplied to NATO members and allied nations.

The company is part of Cobham Ultra, a group created after U.S. private equity firm Advent International acquired British aerospace and defense company Cobham in 2020, followed by the acquisition of British defense contractor Ultra Electronics in 2022. Advent subsequently combined the companies’ maritime businesses into a single organization.

Lockheed Martin stated that Ultra Maritime’s global footprint and export-ready anti-submarine warfare technologies—including advanced underwater acoustic detection systems—will complement the company’s existing maritime defense portfolio and strengthen its competitive position in international markets.

Earlier this year, Ultra Maritime was awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy to develop a next-generation underwater acoustic decoy designed to protect naval vessels and submarines from torpedo attacks.

In addition, the company announced strategic partnerships with two major U.S. defense technology firms in 2025. Together with Anduril Industries, a rapidly growing defense company developing autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and advanced unmanned technologies for the U.S. military, Ultra Maritime is working on autonomous ocean monitoring solutions. The company is also collaborating with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, best known as the manufacturer of the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle, to develop unmanned airborne systems for anti-submarine warfare missions.

The $3.45 billion acquisition reflects the ongoing consolidation of the global defense industry as leading defense contractors seek to expand their capabilities in naval warfare technologies, autonomous systems, and anti-submarine defense amid rapidly increasing global military spending.

[9
["post-151895","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
