German defense company Rheinmetall and U.S. defense giant Lockheed Martin have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint production facility for ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles in Germany. The agreement was signed during the Defence Industry Forum held alongside the NATO Summit in Ankara, according to Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n
“With the support of the governments of the United States and Germany, this agreement marks the next step toward establishing a joint venture that will become Europe’s first center of excellence for the production, integration, and distribution of ATACMS missiles for NATO member states and European allies,” the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Jay Pittman, President of Lockheed Martin International, described the agreement as “a landmark moment” for European security and defense-industrial cooperation among allied nations.<\/p>\n
“By combining Lockheed Martin’s unmatched expertise in missile technology with Rheinmetall’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, we will deliver proven, combat-tested capabilities to our allies more rapidly and efficiently,” Pittman said.<\/p>\n
Armin Papperger, Chief Executive Officer of Rheinmetall, announced that the company intends to manufacture ATACMS missiles at its facility in Unterl\u00fc\u00df, Germany.<\/p>\n
