Volkswagen Group has responded for the first time to recent media reports suggesting it may sell some of its iconic brands. According to Motor1, the company did not explicitly deny the rumors, stating only that it is currently undergoing a comprehensive business transformation.<\/p>\n

The speculation followed a report by the Financial Times, which claimed that the group’s advisers had recommended selling several assets, including the motorcycle brand Ducati. The report also suggested that Lamborghini could be taken public through an initial public offering (IPO). Under such a scenario, Volkswagen Group\u2014through its subsidiary Audi\u2014would retain control of the Italian supercar manufacturer while raising additional capital by selling a minority stake.<\/p>\n

When asked to comment on the reports, a Volkswagen spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of selling Ducati. Instead, the company emphasized that all of its brands and subsidiaries are undergoing a “deep transformation” as part of a broad business restructuring.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen also acknowledged that its traditional business model\u2014manufacturing vehicles in Germany and exporting them worldwide\u2014is no longer fully aligned with today’s economic realities. A similar view was expressed in 2025 by then-Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, who stated that a business model that had been successful for decades now requires fundamental changes.<\/p>\n

In recent months, Volkswagen has already begun streamlining its portfolio. Following Porsche’s exit from the shareholder structure of Bugatti Rimac, the Bugatti brand ceased to be part of Volkswagen Group for the first time since 1998. The company also recently announced the sale of a controlling stake in marine diesel engine manufacturer Everllence, a deal expected to generate approximately \u20ac7.4 billion.<\/p>\n

According to German media reports, Volkswagen’s restructuring efforts may also affect its joint autonomous driving project with Bosch as well as its software subsidiary CARIAD. Earlier reports also indicated that the group is considering closing four manufacturing plants and cutting up to 100,000 jobs as part of its broader transformation strategy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
