According to Business Insider, the company could announce a new wave of layoffs as early as next week. The cuts are expected to affect less than 2.5% of its global workforce.

The report indicates that the sales and consulting divisions will be the hardest hit. Microsoft’s Xbox gaming business is also expected to undergo staff reductions. The company has declined to comment on the reports.

According to Microsoft’s latest annual report, the company employed approximately 228,000 people as of the end of June 2025. As a result, a workforce reduction of less than 2.5% would still amount to more than 5,000 job cuts.

The latest restructuring comes amid a broader trend across the technology sector. Many major U.S. tech companies have recently been reducing headcount to lower operating costs while simultaneously investing billions of dollars in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Particular attention has been focused on Xbox. Earlier reports indicated that the gaming division had already begun reviewing its cost structure following price increases across its product lineup and was planning to reduce marketing expenditures. Sources also claim that Microsoft is evaluating several scenarios for the future of Xbox, including spinning the business off into a separate company or reorganizing it as an independent subsidiary.

[9
["post-151851","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
